How They Asked
My family lives in South Carolina and Geoff’s family lives in Houston, Texas. He flew into South Carolina on Christmas Day and the day after Christmas we packed up the car with our dog to make the trip back to Nashville. He said we had to make a stop in upstate South Carolina to pick up one of my gifts.
A week earlier, our 8-month-old puppy had been killed, and I thought maybe we were picking up a puppy on the way. We pulled up to Pretty Place, which is a very old Chapel that sits up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We walked down, with our dog and there were other people around, taking pictures and laughing with their families, enjoying the sunset. We walked near the cross, he grabbed my hand and started telling me about his wishes for us. He got down on one knee, had the ring in his hand and asked me to marry him.
He hired a photographer ahead of time that captured every moment. We took some photos, soaked in the sunset, and looked out into the future, together.
