Anthony and I met in high school. We actually lived down the street from each other, rode the same bus to school. It wasn’t until senior year of high school that we started dating, little did we know that it would last a lifetime. We became good friends sophomore year of high school, sharing multiple classes together and hanging out at lunch. Senior year we both found out that we liked each other and began dating. I was the captain of the school’s girls lacrosse team and he was the captain of the boys. We were each others first serious relationship and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
Fast forward to last winter (8 years later! – and still going strong). Anthony has been a hockey fan for most of his life (growing up in San Jose). He introduced me to the sport a few years into our relationship and I fell in love with it. Living in Reno, NV at the time, we were huge fans. We would drive 5 hours there and 5 hours back (sometimes in the same day!) just to see our boys play. I had always told him that I wanted to get proposed to at a Sharks game. I didn’t think it would actually happen though!
Fast forward to the end of the first quarter of this game and Anthony says to me, “Lets stay here and read the Jumbotron.” I didn’t know why he wanted to, but I had no doubts in my mind so I stayed and watched the board flash Happy Birthday’s and Happy Anniversary’s of other people in the crowd. Then my name pops up. I thought to myself “Hmm, that person spells their name the same as mine, weird!” Then I realize that is says Kori and Anthony and in between our names reads, “Will you marry me?” My eyes light up and I look over at Anthony, who’s now down on his knee in the middle of the stairs with a ring in his hand. I couldn’t believe it. I had no idea this was going to happen on that night. I couldn’t tell you a thing that went on in my brain at that moment or several afterwards. I had been waiting for this moment for years and it was finally happening!
So instead of just saying “YES!” and having him put the ring on my finger, I scream, “Are you serious?!” and take the ring from his hand and put it on my own finger…all right before hugging him endlessly and crying my eyes out. This was the happiest moment of my life. I can’t wait to marry you, babe!
