how we met
Ironically, Thomas and I met while serving at our church’s annual Celebration of Marriage Dinner & Entertainment event in February of 2014. We became fast friends and started dating that July.
how they asked
I had a bunch of family in town for the 2015 Thanksgiving holiday, which always makes for a somewhat unpredictable and time-consuming schedule. Anticipating the busyness that would ensue, Thomas suggested that we plan some one-on-one time, an hour here and there just for the two of us, away from the hustle and bustle.
For one of these planned escapes, he suggested that we go to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens after work and before a big family dinner, the Friday afternoon before Thanksgiving. I was somewhat suspicious of a possible proposal, but tried to push the idea out of my mind and just focus on being together! We walked around the beautiful gardens for a bit, unaware that he was guiding me to a specific spot he had already picked out. As we walked under a stone archway and rounded the corner, we entered an arched pavilion with stone columns, and he took me by the hand and led me to the center. It was at this point, that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
He had also coordinated with a photographer, Kristi McKeag, and she was there to capture the moment perfectly. Her positive and uplifting energy immediately put us at ease, and we had so much fun with the engagement photo session that followed.
