Kimberly and Ryan | Engaged at the Biltmore Estate, NC

How We Met

It was Halloween night. I was Snooki from the Jersey Shore. Ryan was Maverick from Top Gun. We locked eyes at a mutual friend’s Halloween party. Later in the night, I stole Ryan’s phone and put my number in it. But somehow, I put my friends number under my name in the contact list! So every time he tried to text or call me, he kept calling my friend instead. Whoops! After we got the numbers straightened out, we finally got together about a month later. After talking for hours on our first date, I knew Ryan was special. As cliché as it sounds, I had butterflies. I was excited for the future and everything with it.
how they asked

It started like any other weekend. We were sitting on the couch with our puppy when Ryan’s phone rang. When I asked who it was, he quickly said it was just his alarm going off. Unbeknown to me, it was my dad calling Ryan back to give him permission to ask for my hand in marriage.

It was a beautiful sunny day in Asheville, North Carolina. We spent the day downtown at a festival, laughing and basking in the glow of how happy we were together. After we left, we went to the Biltmore Estate to have lunch. Now, the Biltmore Estate is my favorite place in the world. It’s the largest estate in the U.S. and over the past 2 years, we have spent many days walking the gardens, hiking with our puppy, exploring the winery and farms. The Biltmore Estate is a special place for us.

So when he suggested we go there, I thought it was just like any other visit. We stopped to take pictures in front of the mansion. I asked a random tourist walking by to take our picture. As we were posing, Ryan dropped to one knee and told me I was the love of his life, and asked me to marry him. Of course I screamed yes! It was the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. Perfect in every way… just like my relationship.

The best part about the proposal was that it was captured on camera. I love how I can share one of the most special moments of my life with my friends and family. One day, we can show our future children the pictures and retell how Ryan made me the happiest girl in the world that day.
