How We Met: Darren and I first met when I was working my first job at Food Lion. He was the cute boy that kept coming through my line, that I made extra effort to smile at. One morning he came in and bought orange juice and bananas, only to return again to buy hamburgers, and then once again around lunchtime for pork chops. I watched him through the big windows walk back to his truck, get in for a few minutes, and walk back in. He walked to the end of my register.
how they asked: That’s how it all began. On our first date he was so nervous he locked his keys in his truck, for what he tells me was the first time he ever did. It was absolutely the cutest thing. Fast forward to now. Almost two weeks ago, the man of my dreams asked me to marry him. He totally surprised me. We were going on vacation with my family to OBX, so he told me he planned for us to take pictures together. He said it was because I always complain about how we barely have any pictures together.
We had a sunrise photoshoot. At the end, the photographer said she was done and asked if we had anything we wanted to do. He grabbed my hands and lead me down the Bodie Island Lighthouse walkway, stopped, pulled me in and kept saying “I love you, I love you so much, you’re my best friend.” Then he got down on one knee. I was in tears. He is my best friend.
Theirs no one if rather spend the rest of my life with. Later on I learned he had a whole speech he had memorized that he wanted to say to me, be he was so nervous he completely went blank. Love will do that to you. Make a beautiful mess out of you. I love you, Darren.
