How We Met
Abbas was always the “good boy” in school, and I was always outgoing and crazy. We met in Medical School, in China. Now I am from New York, family heritage is from Pakistan. Abbas is from London, family heritage is from India. Now, in the past 2 sentences I have mentioned literally 5 different locations on different parts of the world, but somehow and someway, we managed to find each other. I knew I found my soulmate when him and I would laugh out loud at the most LAME jokes known to human kind. He was tall, dark, handsome, and most importantly, that British accent!
Fortunately, he thought the same about me. He told me I was the girl of his dreams in 2015, on New Year’s Day. We have been together since then! We went through 3 years of harsh long distance, but still stuck together. No fights, no dramas, literally just laughs. That’s what our relationship has been like since Day 1. Our futures on paper looked a little shaky, due to the different countries, but in June when he visited, he asked my parents for my hand in marriage and we have not looked back since then.
how they asked
I truly believe that soulmates will find a way towards each other, no matter which corner of the world they are in. He told me to wear a nice dress because he was taking me into NYC, which was funny because I am the New Yorker, not him. We walked around Central Park, apparently some family were running late, and I was in 5 inch heels walking on cobblestones for more than an hour. I remember my feet hurting. He led me to a bridge where we spent an afternoon the previous year, distracted me and told me to look up, I saw my family and his cheering us on, I was kind of confused. When I looked back towards Abbas, he was on one knee with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I was overwhelmed with emotion and he is literally the cutest thing ever. Every ounce of pain in my feet was gone, I was smiling, and everything was perfect in that moment.
Whenever I pictured my dream proposal, I always imagined my entire family there to see it. Somehow, my fiance knew this. He flew in from London, had coordinated everyone in his family and mine to meet at the same place at the same time, set up an epic proposal at the Bow Bridge, and even hosted an event later on that evening for dinner! I was astonished at how he had planned everything from A-Z from the other side of the world, maybe that just satisfies my reasons even more to marry him!
Wedding is in April, and I couldn’t be happier. Sending positive vibes to all my girls out there!
