How We Met: Meeting Kevin was nothing short of God’s plan. He lived in Silver Spring and I lived in Baltimore. Although Kevin and I are from the same region in India, live in the same state, share the same faith and share mutual friends, we did not meet until 2013. I was so preoccupied with law school at the time that I told him I wasn’t available to go on a real date until two weeks later. After long conversations and endless Facetime chats, I knew I couldn’t wait two weeks so we decided to go on our first official date that same week. After our third or fourth date, I told Kevin that I couldn’t see him for the next three weeks because law school finals were approaching. That pact didn’t last very long for either of us. Kevin drove to Baltimore every night so we could eat dinner together for an hour while I took a study break. Fast forward to that summer, we quickly knew we were going to spend the rest of our lives together.
How He Proposed: On October 4, 2014, Kevin and I had planned to spend the day in Washington, D.C. and go out to dinner after. I thought we were going to first see the Lincoln Memorial, but we ended up in Georgetown. Georgetown is one of our favorite spots, so I didn’t think anything of it when Kevin stopped there.
Little did I know what he had in store! With the huge help of Kevin’s sister, Kirstie, and her best friend Dhanisha, Kevin had set up the most romantic proposal by the waterfront area. As he led me towards that area, I saw a table with peonies on it and I was like “Umm what’s going on?” As we got closer, I realized what was happening.
On the ground, there was a runner lined with red rose petals, and on it was the verse from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, which says “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
At that moment, Kevin got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said YESSSSS! That special moment was filled with an overwhelming amount of love and emotion.
But the surprises didn’t end there! Kevin had hired Lola, a professional photographer to capture the special moment. After he proposed, we got to take engagement pictures around Georgetown. Kevin had also planned a surprise engagement party at the rooftop of The Graham in Georgetown.
We spent the rest of the evening celebrating with our close family and friends.
It was really special to be able to share that moment with them. Kevin and I are getting married on August 1, 2015 in Kerala, India. We are so grateful that God brought us together and I can truly say I have found the one whom my soul loves.
