Kev and Sophie's Proposal on the High Line
How We Met
Me and Sophie met when we were teenagers. we first met socially in 2007, and soon after got together on the 2nd January 2008. I was 17 and Sophie was 16 at the time, which is now over 8 years ago. Since then we’ve had a baby girl who is 2 this year. We have had a lot of ups and downs through our relationship, which I guess is expected being together at such a young age.

When Kev proposed to me I was really really surprised and shocked I honestly never expected it from him! When I look back on that morning I totally should have guessed! When we were walking up to the High Line he made it out to be this fantastic place which it was and I can only imagine what it would be like in the summer but when we got there it was just like withered plants and a bridge haha! I did notice Samantha taking photos but I honestly thought it was just of the ‘flowers’ and the building I remember thinking to myself, she really likes those weeds and that building, thinking she was an art student getting references.
I remember standing on the High Line and Kev just started acting all weird making me follow him around then he finally stood still and he was just being all awkward then I just remember saying to him ‘what are you doing? You’re making me feel so awkward!’ He just kept mumbling on about a load of nonsense then said I’m going to make you feel even more awkward now, then just got down on one knee. I was so shocked and excited. Then he said that he had got a photographer to take photos of it. I was so happy. I couldn’t believe how much thought and effort he had put into it all of it and Samantha was so discreet that I genuinely thought she was a random woman taking photos of the views/nature.
how they asked – by the groom
I decided back in November last year that I was going to get the courage and propose, soon after I ordered the ring. Then the planning came into it. How do I do a proposal which isn’t common? And somewhere quiet in NYC! That’s why I hired Flytographer, to make it more special, and me and Samantha (the photographer) both agreed that the High Line in New York would be the perfect location to capture it. The lead up to it all was stressful trying to not give anything away. On the day having to stick to a certain time limit was also intense! I wouldn’t say I was nervous, but I was stressing myself out, I always knew she would say ‘yes’ :) It made our trip to New York unforgettable. We can’t stop thinking about planning our next trip out there, it all feels like one big dream now. I would like to say a massive thank you to Samantha as well. She was brilliant through the photo shoot, and the pictures was perfect! if I was to ever book another photoshoot, I would specifically request Samantha to do it again.
