How We Met
Tyler and I met on March 21, 2013 at Biaggio’s in Paramus, NJ on a blind date. We both had gotten out of serious relationships and were looking to meet people who we could start over with. One of my good friends who was working with Tyler at the time thought we would be perfect together (and boy was she right). She reached out to him via email at work asking if he was single and if he was looking to meet one of her cool friends (aka me!). She then reached out to me via text saying “there is this guy I work with and I think you would really hit it off…I would totally date him but I’m like 50 and he’s like 12”. I then asked for a picture of him and before I could agree to go out with him she told me she already gave him my number and he was going to text me soon. Only one day went by and I got a text from Tyler and before I knew it we were setting up a date to meet.
There goes the nerves kicking in! I had to go out and buy a few new outfits to make sure I looked good!! That Thursday came around and it was time to meet Tyler for the first time after work. When I walked into the restaurant he was sitting at the bar waiting for me. I came up behind him crossing my fingers I was approaching the right guys (since he wasn’t facing me) and I tapped him on the back and said “drinking already without me?” It was shortly after we sat down for dinner, conversation was easy and we always had something to talk about. It was like we knew each other forever and we were old friends catching up. Three hours later even though it was the end our date we both knew the rest of our lives just began together.
how they asked
It was Friday, July 1, 2016 and we had gone down to LBI for the weekend. I was annoyed at Tyler for not waiting for me to drive down the shore after work. The next day Tyler woke up and asked if I wanted to go to one of favorite spots for breakfast. Me being greedy I replied “ok but can we hurry back its going to be the only nice day this weekend and I want to lay out and tan.” He agreed and we left for breakfast. We arrived at Kelly’s Restaurant in Barnegat NJ and we ordered our breakfast. Tyler was being super shady all morning texting on his phone and not letting me see who he was texting. Once breakfast was over Tyler asked if I wanted to go walk along the pier by the lighthouse for a little before we headed back to the house since it was so beautiful out. I agreed and off we went.
He had his hand in his pocket which was also super shady because he usually hold me hand. Now I began to think…what does he have in there? Maybe its a ring?! But noooo it couldn’t be. We got to the end of the pier and he was still texting. It was getting cold from the water and I asked if we could head back…he replied “hold on I want to see these people catch a fish” I knew it was going to be a while so I sat on the bench to wait. After a few minutes he agreed to going back to the car to go home. As we were walking back to the car we saw this little baby boy dresses like an old man, and I looked at Tyler and said “when we have kids lets dress them like that little boy because he is soooo cute!!” Tyler asked me when I wanted to get married and everyone who knows me knows Ive been pushing marriage ever since I met Tyler because I knew he was going to be my forever. Before I knew it Tyler had the ring box out of his pocket and in my hand. I freaked per usual and froze!
He started getting down on one knee and because I freaked out I told him to get up and I hugged him right away. To this day I don’t think he said the words “will you marry me” and I don’t think I said “yes” because I didn’t think it was really happening and I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to run out of the bushes screaming you’ve been punked! Once I composed myself I saw my future sister in law and Tyler’s best friend running towards us on the pier.
Again I stared freaking out but this time I wasn’t sure if it was because I saw them coming towards us to celebrate or because Tyler actually listened to me when I told him a year ago “when you purpose have someone hiding somewhere to take pictures of the moment” (even though i ruined it by not letting him get down on one knee). I first called my parents and then his mom, who were all freaking out as well!
