How We Met
I almost didn’t meet the love of my life because I was scared to go on a “blind date”. James and I matched on Tinder and after weeks of him asking to take me to dinner, I finally agreed. That day I was a nervous wreck, I had never had dinner with anyone that I met online but my heart told me to go. He made a reservation at my favorite restaurant and met me out front. The minute I laid eyes on him, I knew going on this date was the best decision I had ever made. He was even more handsome than his online pictures and I instantly felt comfortable talking to him. Our first date lasted three hours and we talked about everything from family to travel. The passion in his voice when he spoke about his family and friends was what won me over. I left our date knowing that I had to see him again. We went on a few more dates in the coming weeks and each was as perfect as the first. He even came to a spin class with me because it was the only time we both had to see each other that week! About three weeks into us dating, I came down with a nasty flu. I got a call from him out of the blue asking me to come down to the front of my apartment and come to find out he had brought me flowers to make me feel better. One month in, we had to have a tough conversation because James was starting his final year of medical school and knew that he would only be applying to residency out of state.
This was a big shock for me as I knew I didn’t want to start dating someone only to break up or do long distance in just one years time. I knew I was falling in love with this man so I decided that I would move to where ever he went to residency when the time came if we were still together. Everyone thought I was crazy for moving across the country for a man who I had only knew a year, but that is how we ended up in Florida. It wasn’t easy giving up my dream job and leaving the place I had called home but I knew “home” was where ever James was going to be. James is the man that pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me a better person. He helped me get over my fear of flying by taking me flying (yes, he is also a pilot) and explaining the plane and how it worked. He has helped me achieve my personal and professional goals by simply being my biggest fan. He has changed the way I view the world because of his positive outlook and he has helped me with my life long struggle with anxiety and depression. He is the type of man who comforts me during morning sickness. Did I forget to mention we found out in December of 2016 that we are expecting a sweet baby girl in August of this year??!! Year one, we moved across the country. Year two, we got a puppy. Year three we found out we were having a baby and got engaged. Its been a wild ride but I cant wait to see where life takes us.
how they asked
It was the first morning of our baby-moon in Clearwater Beach. James had been working a lot of over night shifts at the hospital so I was excited to spend three days of fun in the sun just hanging out and reconnecting. We started the day down at the pool and had brunch poolside. It was the perfect day and to my surprise, his phone alarm went off at about 1 pm. Confused I asked why he had an alarm set for an afternoon where the only plans we had were to relax by the pool. That is when he let me know it was a reminder to send me to the spa. He let me know I was in for a day of relaxation that included a massage, facial, pedicure and manicure. It was the most romantic gesture and just what I needed at 7 months pregnant.
Little did I know, that is when his proposal planning got started. James had planned for our friends, Jordan and Quinn, to drive down from Jacksonville to Clear-water that day to help him with the big day. They spent the day running through the proposal which involved everyone from the waitstaff to the resort concierge. After a day of bliss at the spa, we got ready for what I thought was dinner. James reserved a romantic spot at our resort overlooking the water, at sunset, for a pre-dinner drink. Mind you, I am seven months pregnant and not drinking so you can imagine my surprise when the waiter brought over a bottle of champagne with two glasses. The next thing I knew, James was on one knee. I was in complete shock and couldn’t get the word YES out fast enough.
He didn’t just ask me to be his wife, he asked me if we could be a family forever because he loved me and Olivia (our baby to be) more than anything in this world. Our friends were hiding out near by and surprised me with a warm celebration. She happens to be a photographer and was capturing the moment the entire time.
Just another one of the surprises James had planned all along. We spent the next hour calling family to let them know that I had said yes! They had known for weeks that he was going to propose and he had the ring for months hiding in our home.
