How We Met
We met in April of the 8th grade. The exact date is April 11th, 2011 and it started with a Skype call. We went to school together that whole year but I (Kelsie) had just moved to that school the eighth-grade year from another school so we never really knew each other. The friend I made that year was way more outgoing than me. She convinced me to talk to a guy on skype that she was friends with and wanted us to become friends as well.
I believe it was love at first sight and Philip agrees. We talked for 5 hours straight that night. After that night for the next week, we would talk every day at school and on the phone. He said something silly one day like “Do you like me?” and I said, “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be sitting here waiting for you to ask me out.” He sounded shocked but then asked me in relief. Until this day he will say that I asked him out because of my response to his question and that is still very funny to me.
How They Asked
Philip proposed May 29th, 2019. I just graduated college, so we decided to go on a trip to one of our favorite places California. We had been there for almost three years in a row it was starting to become a tradition. We boarded our flight on May 29th, and I had no clue that it would be the best day of my life. He was so calm for knowing this and having this planned because we had almost missed our flight that morning! We finally arrived in California and checked in our Airbnb. He told me that day we were going to a nice restaurant date, but it was on Malibu beach. We went to the mall and I found the perfect beach outfit. I was so excited because he told me I should also get my makeup done. I found a makeup store began getting my makeup done by an artist there.
I was done quickly but with LA traffic making it back to our Airbnb it was cutting it close to our so-called “reservation” for 7 pm in Malibu an hour away from us. We quickly got dressed once we got back and agreed to do our hair in the car! Even with all the traffic we still arrived at our time. What I didn’t know is that when I was getting my makeup done in the mall, he was in target preparing for the proposal. We arrived at El Matador Beach.
It was the most amazing beaches we had ever been to. We walked down to the beach and began walking, talking, kissing and enjoying the view. There were a lot of photo shoots going on around us, so I never thought he had a photographer following us to snap pictures the entire time. He set up the blanket and got out the champagne bottle. The next thing I remember is him saying “I really love you a lot” before getting on one knee and taking the ring out of his pocket. It didn’t feel like anyone else was around I was overfilled with love and joy. And of course, I said yes!
We had been waiting for this moment forever but knew how young we were. It was the perfect destination because we always thought about having a beach wedding. We came to realize that wouldn’t work and put the idea out because my huge family is from New Orleans, Louisiana and his family lives in Houston, Tx.
After the proposal, we had an engagement photo shoot with an amazing photographer named Tyler Chase and all the photos came out breathtaking! We even recently went viral on twitter for them which we were not expecting at all! I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal from my fiancé!
