How We Met
Luke and I met when we were both 18 years old in Knoxville, Tennessee. I was a lifeguard working at a country club where he played golf and we were introduced through mutual friends. At the time, I was unaware that Luke was interested in me but we became friends and occasionally hung out by the pool when we were both there. We both attended different colleges but one weekend Luke had asked me to come back to Knoxville to go to a UT basketball game with him so I caught on that it was probably more of a “date” since it would just be the two of us. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure I was ready to be in a relationship but I decided to go with him to see what it would be like. I thought he was really quiet and if I had been asked at the time, I would have said I would probably never go out with him again (haha). After that date we wouldn’t speak or see each other for almost 6 years. We reconnected in 2014 while Luke was in the Marines and some how managed to carry on a successful long distance relationship.
how they asked
On April 8, 2017, Luke was visiting me while I lived in Greenville, South Carolina. He asked me to get dressed and to not ask questions….which is pretty hard for me. When we started driving I knew where we were headed….to one of my favorite cities, Charleston! We took my Corgi with us, Folly, who is actually named after Folly Beach. We drove to Folly Beach because we thought it was a great day for a walk. We walked past the pier and were kind of isolated when Luke bent down because “Folly had something on her back.” He then pulls out a new collar for her and my reaction was “What’s that for?” He said, “It’s her birthday present and I didn’t want you to be jealous so I wanted to ask if you’d marry me?” He then pulls out a ring and took my hand and put it on my finger. I said yes, obviously! I loved that moment for many reasons but mostly because it was intimate and he included Folly which was perfect.
