How We Met
In May of 2017, I decided to go on a cruise with a girlfriend for my 25th birthday. At the same time, Matt was going on the same cruise with a group of his guy friends for a bachelor party. Our groups crossed paths on the second night of the cruise, and that’s when I met Matt for the first time, and I knew it was love at first sight. I had never met someone that made me feel the way he did. One thing led to another, we exchanged numbers on the last night of the cruise, and have talked to each other every day since. Thanks, Carnival Cruises for bringing us together!
How They Asked
We were heading up to Akron, Ohio to visit my parents for a few days. We had our normal family activities planned, and the guys had golf plans. Matt told me a few days before we left, that he got us tickets for an art show on Thursday. Just the two of us. It did cross my mind if this would be a proposal, so I made sure I had a dress packed for the occasion. We got ready and leave the house for the art show. I had no idea where he was taking me since he gave me zero details about the show. We pulled into Stan Hywet, a historic mansion site with beautiful gardens and sites.
We check-in and start on our self-guided tour of the grounds. After about 10 minutes of walking on the tour, we stop at this beautiful spot near the back of the house by a pond. Matt grabs my hand, looks at me, and tells me he needs to ask me a question. The rest is history as he gets down on one knee to ask me to spend the rest of my life with him.
Without knowing, across the water from us, was a photographer hiding in the bushes capturing the entire proposal. I was blown away by the surprise. We spent the next 2 hours with the photographer taking engagement pictures all throughout the grounds of this beautiful site. It was a dream come true. And I’m so lucky we had someone who could capture our special moment.
