How We Met
Jacob and I met in highschool. Our paths crossed when we were both working at the local ice arena. He grew up playing hockey, while I grew up figure skating. From the beginning I knew there was something special about him. We became really good friends and I started to have a major crush on him. Although everyone including him knew about it, we stayed good friends through the rest of high school. He joined the Coast Guard while I was finishing up my senior year of high school. We continued to stay in touch, but we only talked here and there. He randomly showed up at my high school graduation party and I knew something was there between us. Then he randomly texted me one night and we began to really stay in touch, talk on the phone, and skype. We started to both have feelings for each other after all those years and began to date long distance.
how they asked
While Jacob was in aviation school for six and a half months he was coming up with a major plan. It was December and I was anxiously awaiting his arrival home. I was happy to have plans for the day in Columbus. I was going to a Blue Jackets game was a friend and his sister since she won free tickets. We got to the game and quickly went to our seats. We watched the players warmed up and then everyone was getting ready for the National Anthem. Before the song came on the announcer introduced a person from the military, since that is what the Blue Jackets do at every game. All the sudden I heard Jacob’s name and saw his face on the Jumbotron. I could not believe my eyes. I had not seen him in so long. Once the National Anthem was over he came up to where we were sitting to watch the game with us. Before I could even take in that he was sitting right next to me, all these cameras were around us and Jake began to stand up. I thought I knew what was going on, but it didn’t turn out to be just a surprise of his homecoming, but also a proposal in front of so many people as well! The announcer came on and said “Jacob has an important question to ask his girlfriend, Kelsey.”
Then he got on one knee and help up the most beatiful ring while asking me to marry him. I was trying so hard not to cry and take in the moment as best I could. After saying yes (obviously) and hugging him while still being in shock he told me both our families were higher up in the stands. That made the whole night complete! It will be something that I will remember forever.
