How We Met
Charley and I first met when we were 5 years old because we lived in the same hometown and went to the same church. We knew of each other growing up, but never really connected until a mutual friend’s high school graduation party. We realized we were both going to be attending the same university in the fall and studying the same major. We joked the entire time about starting a business together. By the end of the party, I had a Ring Pop on my finger and we were in each others’ phone as Hubby and Wife. Who would have thought that today there’d be an actual ring on my finger and we’d be getting ready to start our life together as husband and wife?
How They Asked
There is no doubt in my mind that we both had our dream engagement. During October of 2019, we went on a vacation to Charleston, SC. Charley has known since we started dating how much Charleston meant to me, and he wanted to visit my favorite city together. Leading up to our trip, I had NO CLUE that he was going to be proposing. To give you an idea of how clueless I was, I wasn’t even planning on painting my nails before we left for the trip. My coworkers kept telling me before I left that it was going to happen, but I honestly didn’t think it was because he had so many good excuses as to why it wasn’t. Back in college, we were at a party and he was joking around begging me to let him call my dad and ask if he could propose to me. He happened to be wearing this one pair of orange underwear, so from then on, they were deemed as the engagement underwear. Before we hopped on our flight, he made a point to show me that the orange underwear was not coming with us, so of course, I KNEW it wasn’t happening that weekend. Fast forward to the night before he proposed, we spent time visiting different restaurants by our Airbnb. He kept asking what time golden hour was the next day, which made me start to think it might be happening. On the day of, we spent the entire day walking around the city and enjoying our time together. Later that evening, we walked to the pier at golden hour and talked about our entire relationship. It was so intimate getting to share our favorite memories and relive so many beautiful moments in our relationship. We got to the place where he was planning to propose and we spent another half an hour talking about how excited we were to see each other as parents and spend the rest of our lives together. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and all I cared about was hugging and kissing him (I didn’t even look at the ring LOL). He begged me to put it on because it was so windy and we were by the water. I’m so glad that he proposed without any friends and family because we were able to sit there and just enjoy being engaged without any distractions. To my surprise, while we were sitting down, he pulled a little square of the orange underwear out of his sock. That’s what I love about him – he does the best job of getting all of the details perfect.
