How We Met
Braxton and I first met during our first year of college at Abilene Christian University. We were a part of the same friend group and quickly started having an eye for each other. Before coming into college, I told myself I would not date during my first year, but Braxton was too much of a catch to not pursue. ;) A couple months go by and our group of friends decided that with it being October, we had to go to a haunted house aka Cutting Edge in Fort Worth, Texas. Being completely oblivious to Braxton having a crush on me, he started acting a little less friendly and a little more flirty. I was immediately 100% for him. ;)
Two months into getting to know each other a little better, we decide to start dating and after 2 and a half years of our ups and downs, we finally made it official. Braxton and I are very spontaneous and love adventure, so we are excited to live our lives and grow together. He is my best friend and my other half and I’m thankful that he chose me to be his future wifey.
how they asked
This day will forever be one of the most amazing and perfect days of my life. Summer of 2017, we were in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. It was the day before the Fourth of July, so we were eager to have a little adventure and fun. We started out the day with a trip to the beach, which included lots of snorkeling, turtle chasing and sun bathing.
After a few hours on the beach, we decided we wanted go on an illegal hike to Sacred Falls, which is the tallest waterfall on the island (if you are curious why the falls are illegal, do some googling to research).
Thinking we were going be taking some family photos at the waterfall, I decided to wear something a little cuter than what I would normally wear on a hike. After a 30 minute drive, we were at the trail, but since guards monitor this illegal trail, we decided to park a little farther away and walk through the jungle. The trail starts off as this dirty road in which workers or guards drive through to go in and out. With not wanting to get arrested or caught, we were having to run and hide in the bushes every couple minutes.
A little bit into the trail, there are branches, slippery rocks, mud, water and plants everywhere- we were finally on the hard, intense part of the trail, which for me was exciting.
As soon as the you see the jungle open up into a beautiful valley, you become speechless. It was actually the most amazing view I’ve seen in my whole life. The rocks were all so big, it made you feel small.
Once we got to the waterfall, we decided to “start taking family photos” and that is when it all went down. Braxton and I were standing on the biggest rock right in front of the waterfall and then he grabbed both of my hands and looked into my eyes and I immediately knew what was about to happen.
My heart sank and my stomach started to feel fluttery. This was one of the moments I thought about ever since I was little. He got down on one knee, told me he loved me and and that he wanted to adventure with me forever, and I of course didn’t say no.
