How We Met
We matched on Bumble in September of 2020. Mid-pandemic, I had moved from Santa Monica to Venice CA and Tyler offered to help me move in to my new apartment as our first date… very wary of strangers on the internet, I proposed the alternative to meet up for drinks after the move. Tyler invited me for a to-go picnic (as all restaurants in Los Angeles were closed for dine-in) on the beach. He (or his roommate, rather) had packed us a picnic kit of a blanket and cups- the perfect supplies for picking up to-go margaritas and tacos at the Venice Whaler.
I was initially nervous; however, we immediately bonded over our love of travel, adventures, reading and shenanigans.. and the rest is history!
How They Asked
A year and a half later of traveling all over the world, many books finished and plenty of costumes worn, Tyler popped the question on St. Patrick’s Day 2022. It was a TOTAL surprise. He had my brother pretend to make plans with me for St. Patrick’s Day at the Venice Whaler- which happened to be the location of our first date. Clad in his Irish overalls, Tyler suggested we grab to-go margaritas and catch the sunset while we waited for my brother who was “running late.” While we had talked at length about some day getting married, I was definitely not expecting a proposal that day.
After walking out to the water, Tyler began to recount our first date, our first “I love you”, the first time he met our kitties.. and yet I was still oblivious to a proposal coming. So much so, in fact, that mid-proposal I interrupted him to exclaim, “You’re being so nice! Are we having a cute moment on the beach?” A cute moment, indeed. Upon this, he pulled out the ring, bent on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” We heard cheers from the pier, and looking up, I spotted our parents- who Tyler had asked to be present (but hidden) for the proposal.
I was in such a state of shock, I forgot to respond. After he gently reminded me I had yet to answer, I responded with a resounding “YES!” After the proposal, Tyler had set up a pop-up beach tent, where we popped champagne and celebrated together as a family. This was incredible special for us, as we are both very close with our families. A very happy St. Patrick’s Day, indeed!
