How We Met
I met Mike the week after I moved across the country from DC to San Francisco. I knew only one person in SF at the time, arrived with two suitcases and pure excitement to start a new life on the West Coast. I was immediately drawn to Mike’s energy and positivity, he was nice to me in a way no guy had been before. Maybe it was that he was so genuine or his cheeky grin, but I knew as soon as we started talking that this could be something special. We became inseparable. After a few margaritas one day, we realized we had mutual friends from college and were actually at the same New Years’ Eve party in DC the year before! (While neither of us remembers meeting, there is photo evidence…)
How They Asked
Before we dive in let me say, Mike planned the most romantic proposal. He asked if I wanted to walk on this secluded beach to watch the sunset before dinner, so I got dressed as if I was just getting ready for a nice dinner. When we got there, he grabbed my hand and led to me this beautiful beach. A few moments after strolling hand in hand, barefoot in the sand Mike picks up this bottle on the beach and asks “What’s this?”. I had no idea what this was leading to so I take this old, washed-up bottle and realize there is a note tucked into it.
I get a few lines into the note before I am overcome with emotion. I look up, teary-eyed and Mike is down on one knee asking me to marry him. I later found out he worked with a photographer to plant this message in a bottle with a poem he wrote about our love. The photographer had a picnic set up for us on the beach with a bottle of champagne to enjoy while capturing this magical moment. I couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect proposal, the ring ain’t bad either!
