How We Met
It was around the end of July 2014 and my best friend and I had just moved into a new condo. She convinced me to go out for some drinks and all I wanted to do was just chill. We end up going to a local bar and we invite a few other friends. One of the friends that shows up brings this guy she had been talking to and his roommate, Brandon. We talked a little but I just wasn’t feeling it. I was ready to head home. He grabbed my number then my friend and I left. He called my phone the next morning really early and I had no idea who it was so I just ignored the call. A week or so later I get a text from him. We start talking a little, then he asked me to dinner. We met up at one of my favorite restaurants and the rest is history.
how they asked
This proposal was a long time coming. My mother had terminal cancer so on Mother’s Day in 2018 Brandon asked my parents if he could marry me. Of course, they said yes. It meant so much to me that he included my family. Midsummer we started looking at rings and he had also mentioned a beach trip in August. I didn’t want to put it together but of course, the thought ran through my mind that it could be happening then. We flew to Florida at the end of August. It was a Wednesday morning we were walking around Key West and I get a call from my father. My mother’s illness had taken a turn for the worst. So, of course, I was devastated.
How am I supposed to enjoy the rest of this trip? I try to still think positively. We head back to the house and get ready for dinner. Brandon said we should go to the beach beforehand because the sunset is amazing. We get to the beach and walk around for a while. Little did I know, he had a photographer taking pictures of us this whole time. He stops mid-walk and holds my hands for what felt like a lifetime. Then all of a sudden he got down on one knee. One of the worst days turned into the most special day of my life. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect person to be in my life through the best and the hardest times.
