How We Met
“We met with a month left in our senior year of college, and it was as close to love at first sight you can get, I think. From the day we met we spent every minute we could together, dreading graduation where we may have to say goodbye. We couldn’t get enough of each other. I had never met anyone who understood me so completely and who I could have fun just doing nothing with. Both of us weren’t planning on falling in love, I mean four years at the same college and we meet with one month left? Still, by the time graduation came, there was no way this was the end for us. By that point, I think we both knew this was it. We’d found the one.” – K “It’s safe to say that when my friend’s and I left the apartment in goofy matching cardigan sweaters on the night of April 17, 2014, I was not planning on meeting anyone, much less the girl that would become my wife. But when she sat down next to me, something just clicked right away. It wasn’t just how beautiful she was, or how she brought her own crystal light pouches to a bar. It was her love of life, her ability to make me laugh so easily. It was how easy she was to talk to, although it was easier to talk to a girl that was clearly out of my league. Since that night, we’ve never stopped talking. We’ve been inseparable, and every day I get to feel like the luckiest guy in the world.” – D
how they asked
Danny was studying day and night for his upcoming Step 1 exam, possibly the biggest exam of his (future) career. I was getting things in order to road trip to Nebraska the day after his exam. We had just celebrated our 2 year anniversary but decided to postpone our real celebration until we got to Omaha because he needed to focus on his exam. He told me he had something special planned for when we got there, so I was expecting a nice date night in my hometown. After his exam, we loaded up the car and set off on the 23 hour road trip from Florida to Nebraska. Along the way, we talked about our past and our future, we reminisced on our favorite memories, and dreamed about the new memories we would make together. We both already knew this was forever, but only he knew that in a few short days he would make it official!
In the morning of April 25, 2016, I went shopping and had a girls day with my mom and sister while Danny went to “check out the golf course” with my dad. Little did I know, he and my dad went to set up the proposal site. After shopping I came back and started to get ready, worried that Danny wasn’t going to make it back in time for our dinner reservation. Finally he got back, blaming my dad for keeping him too long! When he returned, we got in the car and headed to our secret destination. As we were driving in the car towards downtown, he was quiet but playing it pretty cool. We pulled up to this area with a gorgeous lake and fountain with a walking trail. He suggested we take a walk around the lake, since we were early for our dinner reservation. One of our favorite things to do is take long walks together, talking about life and spending some uninterrupted time together. It was the most beautiful day and the perfect place to take a walk. As we walked along the trail near the water, he started to reminisce on his favorite memories over the last few years and how excited he was for our future together. We walked up to a bridge that overlooks the river and he said we should go check it out. As we walked up the stairs I saw a table at the end of the bridge with roses and photographs lining the walkway. I realized that those photos were of us, and THIS WAS IT.
It’s all kind of a blur from there. He held my hand tight and we walked down the bridge, looking at the pictures of the amazing memories we made together. As we get to the end of the walkway he took my hands in his and told me how much he loves me and how much I mean to him.
He got down on one knee and pulled the ring box out of his sock (I have to admit, I was pretty impressed he was able to hide it there!). I have never been more excited and more happy in my life. We were both giggling and shaking and all I could think about was jumping in to his arms! He slipped the most beautiful ring on my finger and asked me to be his wife. It was like a dream!
He really did think of it all. We popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate this perfect moment, then walked around the deck, looking at the photos and signs he had spent hours picking out and setting up for this day.
He had my mom, dad, and sister meet us and surprise me for dinner after to celebrate our engagement. How he managed to plan this amazing, incredibly thoughtful day in the midst of exam studying and school is beyond me, but I know one thing is for sure – I am the luckiest girl in the world.
