How We Met: John and I met at West Chester University when we took the same video production class. I remember thinking he was so handsome and quite cool with his 6’4″ stature and longboard in hand. It wasn’t until six months later when we ran into each other one night in town that I really noticed just how much of a crush I had on John. He not only called me by my first name, but he also remembered my last name! It was then that I told one of my girlfriend’s that I was going to date him, I just had this feeling! Soon enough he asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history…
how they asked: We were celebrating my birthday weekend at the beach in Ocean City. The morning began with a treasure hunt for my birthday gifts. John made this hunt extra special because each clue and gift was from a different country we visited on our four-month backpacking trip around the world. It was a complete surprise! Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, John called and revealed a clue to find my final treasure map. The map showed an illustration of the beach. So off I went- no flip flops, and naturally my birthday hat remained on, like it had been all day. As I walked along the quiet street I noticed John ahead, and nothing else. That is when it hit me!
As I saw him standing over a large “X”, nervously playing in the sand with his feet, I began to get butterflies in my stomach. I remember the whole moment perfectly, I just could not concentrate on one thing he said the second he dropped to his knee! I somehow managed to pop my foot upon saying YES (!!!) and gave him the biggest celebratory hug and kiss. One of my favorite parts was when I heard cheering from the dunes, and our parents emerged! They were a piece of our perfect evening, and it could not have been more magical. It was the best birthday imaginable, and the ultimate gift is being able to spend forever together!
