How We Met
Jordon and I met back in college through a mutual friend at Central Michigan University during our Freshman year. We started hanging out quite a bit and it wasn’t anything at first, but then came Sophomore year. There was one night that I was out walking some of my friends to the bar so they got there safely (yes I was the sober sally that night). The bar was only down the block from our apartment so I walked home by myself. Upon arrival at my apartment, my klutzy self-slipped on the ice and broke my ankle. For the next 8 weeks, I was basically a hermit and couldn’t really go out with my friends or get around easily on crutches.
Jordon was never much of a party animal, so he would come, pick me up from my apartment almost every night to hang out so I wasn’t alone. This meant even driving in snow storms and throwing me over his shoulder to get me to and from the car. Jordon was my knight in shining armor through my entire recovery and even tutored me in stats. Jordon was in the same statistics class as me, but a different hour. I asked if he would take notes for me and help me stay on top of my work. Little did I know, this would be the start of our relationship. Stats was never my strong suit or even any math for that matter, but Jordon went to every class and took the most beautiful notes I’ve ever seen… I literally mean beautiful. He writes everything in cursive and extremely neat, I’ve never seen any guy write that nicely in my life.
After spending so much time together, we both just kind of fell… actually fell in love. Me breaking my ankle was probably the greatest thing that could’ve happened as I literally fell in love with the man of my dreams.
how they asked
On August 19, 2018, my entire life changed. Jordon and I have been together for about 7.5 years and we have been doing things a little out of order. We’ve been living together for about 4 years and bought our first home in October of 2017 and got our first puppy in June 2018 (in addition to already having 2 cats). We always knew we were going to get married, just hadn’t taken that next step of getting engaged yet.
About 2 years ago Jordon took me to a place in his hometown in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan called Piers Gorge. This place turned into one of my favorite getaways in the world due to its beauty and peacefulness. Piers Gorge is one of the only places that I can go and completely unplug from the world and be completely at ease.. as if nothing else matters. The first time Jordon took me here, we engraved our initials into a tree and that became our spot.
On August 17, 2018, during one of our trips to the UP, we had gone on our normal hike through the woods and found our tree. On August 19, 2018, Jordon said he wanted to go back and take our puppy, Maverick with us. I thought this was just going to be normal hike since we were heading back home downstate the next day, but I was happily mistaken. We found our tree again and while I was busy giving water to Maverick, Jordon was engraving our initials a little bit more. When I turned around to check on how it was going, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him! Of course, my answer was yes, with the outpouring of tears. Piers Gorge has always been a special place to me, but now it is a special place for the both of us, where our lives changed forever. August 19, 2018, is when I told my best friend that I can’t wait to marry him!!
