How We Met
Michael and I both attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. One summer when he was student body president and I was an orientation assistant, I caught his eye during an opening session of orientation for incoming freshman. He emailed me asking for an interview about my role as an orientation asssitant. I agreed to do an interview, not knowing he was just trying to meet me and get to know me! Our busy schedules got the best of us and the interview never happened. However, three years later a new message from him landed in my inbox. He was in law school in Raleigh, NC and I was still in Greenville getting my masters degree. We set up our first date at a place in downtown Raleigh and I made the trip to see him. As I approached him on the sidewalk where we officially met, I instantly got butterflies and the rest is history. Since that April in 2017, we’ve been inseparable and have shared many adventures, deep belly laughs, and life milestones!
How They Asked
In December 2017, we planned a ski trip to Snowshoe, West Virginia. It was Michaels first time skiing and after a few falls down the slopes he finally got the hang of it and it became “our thing.” On that trip, we were going down the mountain and a photographer from snowshoe was off to the side and we asked him to take our picture. It’s been framed ever since.
This year we planned a ski trip before the holidays. Little did I know, Michael had a surprise for this year’s trip! On December 14th, we had started our morning skiing and around 10:30 am we headed up a lift to do run. Once we got ready to go down, Michael turned on the GoPro and said he wanted to get some footage going down. As we were going down there was a man with a camera standing in the same spot as last year when had our picture taken. Michael pointed it out to me and said we should get another picture in the same spot. Of course, I agreed and after he took our picture Michael told me to keep my gloves off and unzipped his ski jacket. He got down on one knee and I began to cry! Of course, I said yes, well actually I exclaimed the words “I do it!” I still don’t know how I made it down the rest of the mountain!
When we got back to Raleigh after our trip. Michael had another surprise and invited our friends and family to join us in the exact spot where our first date was!
