How We Met
James and I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York. We had many mutual friends and were high school sweethearts in 2004. We dated for many years after high school until we decided to go our separate ways when James decided to move out of state to pursue a career opportunity in 2012. James moved back to NY after 3 years and reached out as a friend for advice regarding his heart condition, knowing I am a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology. This was 2 years ago now, and we have been together ever since!
how they asked
November 12, 2017 was by far the most magical day of my life. It was a typical day for us. We drive out to our hometown to visit or families every Sunday. That Sunday morning James thought it would be a good idea to visit one of our favorite places back home, Letchworth State Park, to view the beautiful Fall foliage one last time before the season changed. We drove through Letchworth State Park that afternoon, reminiscing over our many memories we have together, listening to country music, and simply enjoying the drive, which is so perfectly “us”. As we walked down the path towards the Upper Falls, not even for a second did I think this beautiful place that I’ve visited so many times before, would become the most memorable and meaningful moment of our lives. At the time I thought James was capturing another Instagram-worthy photo. Little did I know, he had propped his phone up on my coat to capture a video. It is common for James to pose me for pictures like he has many times before on many of our travels around the world. I was in so much shock when I turned around to find James down on one knee, It was a rush of uncontrollable emotions, words could not leave my mouth. All I could do was throw myself in his arms & let the happy tears flow. Our family and friends thought James would propose on our most recent trip to Bali this past October, but I’m so happy he chose to do it in our hometown. He picked a place that is so very meaningful to us.
That evening I shared our proposal video on my Instagram account so our family and friends could view our special moment. Never did we think after one day the video would go viral on social media. The video had over 40,000 views and was being shared around the world! James and I have had the opportunity to share our love story on the radio, on both local and national news, newspapers, and were interviewed my many including ABC, Good Morning America, Daily Mail, and Inside Edition to name a few. It has been over a month now and I haven’t stopped smiling! I’m giddy, I look at down at my gorgeous ring and it takes my breath away every time. The pouring of love, kindness, excitement, and support for James and I that we have received from all over the world has been overwhelming and incredible. So many kind and talented people gave James and I memories and articles that we will truly cherish forever. James and I are so grateful and cannot wait to start this next chapter of our lives together. We feel very blessed.
