How We Met
I’ll start off by saying it’s kind of a crazy story. I was with one of my friends going to a party. I was 17, I had only been driving for about 3 months at this point. I was driving on the same road for a bit when all of a sudden a car pulls out RIGHT in front of me. There was no one else around so I was pretty annoyed that he couldn’t wait until I passed. I remember my friend repeatedly telling me to beep my horn and flash my brights because I would never do it. Being that this person almost hit my car, I decided to listen to her. Next thing I know the car pulls over.
After seeing that it’s a group of guys around our age, we pull over and start yelling at them. (crazy I know). Long story short, some time goes by and a road rage incident turns into the driver and I exchanging numbers. After a few weeks of blowing him off (stupid me), I decided to invite him to a party I was having for my 18th birthday. I am so glad I did because we hit it off that night and it has just gotten better and better since.
May 2, 2010… that was the day we started dating. I will never forget that day. It was bobby’s 20th birthday. I was a senior in high school but even at such a young age, I just knew Bobby was someone special.
how they asked
We both have a love for traveling. We have a map hanging in our living room with pins in every place we have been together. We hope to fill that map up with as many pins as we can. Every chance we get to travel somewhere new, we take it. One thing we always do on our trips is getting pictures taken of us to have the special memories.
So fast forward almost 7 1/2 years after we started dating. Bobby decides to book a cruise around Europe. Surprising me later on by telling me where we are going. Italy, Montenegro, Croatia, and Greece. Shortly after telling me about the cruise, he then tells me about a photographer he hired in Santorini who I’ve been following on Instagram for a while. I was beyond excited. I didn’t think too much of it until some of my friends started hinting to me “it sounds like your getting engaged”. The more I thought about it, they seemed right. Two days before our trip I remember telling my mom that “I think it’s happening”.
She then proceeded to go into a 30-minute conversation as to why he wouldn’t propose on vacation, its too obvious, he would have told her first, etc., etc. Remind you at this point she had already known for SIX months! She did a damn good job convincing me otherwise. However, now we get onto our cruise. We walk into our room and I eventually realize that there are 2 safes in the room. Have you ever been in a room with 2 safes!? I know I haven’t. I immediately think in my head “he set this up, he needed it for the ring”. Well sure enough the next day we are packing a beach bag for the day and Bobby asks me to get something out of his safe. I said are you sure I can go in there? he says yes. Now I am SO CONFUSED! I go in the small safe where clearly there is no ring box so I’m like that’s it, I am seriously taking the thought of an engagement out of my head. The next 4 days were absolutely amazing. We explored so many different places and we were having the time of our lives.
Next stop, Santorini. September 6, 2017. We pack a bag and get off the ship, all dressed up ready to have a little photo shoot (or so I thought). We meet up with our photographer and immediately start taking picture after picture. It was already the best day of my life without even knowing what was coming. We were I, sure enough, most beautiful places in the world and I couldn’t get over it. The photographer would take pictures of Bobby by himself, then me by myself and then the 2 of us together. After doing that for about a half hour in all different places we move to our next spot. The same thing followed pictures of Bobby and then me. I will never forget Kimonas (our photographer) saying “ok now let’s take pictures of you both together” just like he did in every other spot. I was facing the water at this point so I turn back around to go near Bobby but he was already right there with a ring box in his hand. I will never forget that very moment. So many thoughts running through my head. I felt like I was going to pass out, I couldn’t even speak. Is this real life!?
I have never cried within seconds, ever in my life. I went from smiling for pictures to INSTANT tears running down my face.
One surprise after the other, immediately after Bobby proposing we get an engagement shoot!
Hours later, I start asking so many questions. Here are 2 of my biggest ones…
Why were there 2 safes in the room? Oddly enough it was just a coincidence. Where was the ring? Bobby collects watches and every time we go on vacation he takes 2-3 with us. He puts them individually in the boxes they come in. He cut a hole in one of the pillows, stuck the ring inside, then put the watch back around the pillow and into the box. He kept the ring box in his empty suitcase under the bed. Crazy right!? Now, a year later I’m still in shock. Perfect doesn’t even begin to describe that day. But amazing, an amazing day that was and an absolutely amazing man I have who will be my husband next year! I’ll never know how I got so lucky.
