How We Met
Tommy and I met while we were both in college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. New Year’s Day 2013, he and his friends were continuing the festivities from the night before at the bar I was working at. We had seen each other before, but never spoken. Maybe it was the liquid courage still lingering from the night before, or maybe it was fate, but I gave him a free drink and we began to talk, while I ignored the rest of the bar. The connection was immediate. We began hanging out that week, and haven’t stopped since.
how they asked
If you know us, you know we live for brunch. This Saturday, like many others, we visited our favorite brunch spot with my brother and sister. The entire brunch I was talking about how we had so many family events and holidays approaching, so we wouldn’t be able to get engaged for a while. Looking back, I don’t know how they all kept a straight face. After brunch, my sister mentioned wanting to take my puppy, Ralphie, to the park nearby. Tommy and I went home to get Ralphie. I told him I was going to change from my outfit I wore to brunch into some workout clothes. He said we didn’t have time and rushed me out of the door. Once we arrived at the park, we walked to meet my brother and sister.
Once we got to the bridge, Tommy hugged me tight and told me he loved me and that he always knew it was me. At this point, I still had no clue what was going on. He then got down on one knee and told me he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with me.
Before I could even say yes, all of our family and close friends were cheering and crying at the end of the bridge. I said yes, champagne was popped, and my fairy-tale day was complete.
