How We Met
We lived in the same city growing up, only a few miles away from each other in Virginia Beach. Although we are only 2 years apart in age, we are 4 years apart in school grades. We both attended the same high school, but didn’t cross paths too many times as he was a senior while I was a freshman. I always had a crush on him throughout the years, but had always been too nervous to talk to him.
After one too many Coors Lights at a mutual friend’s party in Summer 2012, we unofficially met as he put me in a gentle drunken headlock. He proceeded to tell me he thought I was the prettiest girl in the world – several times over. Although I secretly loved his compliments, I thought his words were polluted with liquid courage and we didn’t speak again until Winter 2012, about 6 months later.
When I was home from college during 2012 winter break, I told a mutual friend that that I had a crush on him for years. Apparently, he had told her the same thing a few weeks prior. I made the first move (via snapchat). We went on our first date a few weeks later, and the rest is history! After 3.5 years of dating, 2 years of living together, and 2 dogs later – we are now engaged!
how they asked
My parents live on a small island in Virginia Beach, VA. It is a gorgeous piece of property nestled off the Chesapeake Bay. Their home is charming and has always been one of our favorite places to go over the past few years to relax or party. Even though my parents only live 2 miles from us, it is truly like a mini vacation spot. On Saturday night, May 14th, 2016; Taylor told me we were going on a boat ride to dinner with my parents. He picked out a white romper for me to wear.
Once we arrived at my parents’ house, he walked me to the edge of their property over looking the water, got down on one knee and told me he couldn’t imagine living life without me and asked me to marry him. I said hell yes.
After hugging he told me to turn around – my dear friend (Courtney Timms) who is a photographer was there to document the moment. I was extra surprised because she had been traveling for months around the U.S. He flew her back from Miami so she could be there. After I greeted her, we walked to the dock to go to dinner at One Fish Two Fish.
My parents, his parents & brother were all on the boat to greet us with champagne and a cheese board. As if this wasn’t all amazing enough, once we got to the restaurant – I was surprised with about 20 of our friends and family to celebrate! I wish I could relive this day every day.
