How We Met
Lamont are I are both professional singers, and a few years ago, we auditioned in Hollywood to be performers in a show at Japan’s Disney theme park. When it came time in the audition process to see how well we danced, the casting directors paired us together. We talked a bit, and went our separate ways, not sure if we’d see each other again. We didn’t know we had both booked the job until we boarded the plane to Tokyo a few months later. From day one in Japan, we were inseparable, and we spent the following two years singing and dancing together with Mickey Mouse and the gang!
how they asked
In May of this year, we began another theme park performing job together, this time at Hersheypark in Hershey, PA. The show is a musical revue featuring iconic love songs from the past 100 years, called Dance, Dance, Dance: Heartbeat! At one point in the show, Lamont sings “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles. Normally in the show, I’m supposed to act surprised, and sing the last two lines of the song with him. The song ends with us exiting the stage, walking hand in hand. In this particular performance, right before we were supposed to hold hands, the rest of our cast walked on stage, and I realized that something was up. Before I could react, Lamont walked around to kneel in front of me. I was still so shocked, that I stayed in performance mode, and finished singing the last two lines with him, as I normally would. At that point, the music faded, and Lamont said, “Kayla, you are my best friend, you are my partner, you are my favorite human being. I feel lucky to know you, I’m feel lucky to share the stage with you everyday, I fall in love with you more everyday, I want to do that everyday for the rest of my life. Kayla Briana Sampson, will you marry me?” Then, I said, “YES!” before he could even take out the ring!
