How We Met
Kevin and I matched two days before my birthday in June of 2017 on the popular dating app, Bumble. We both lived in Orlando and we were attracted by one another’s love of adventure, according to our profiles. I was leaving the day we matched to go to Las Vegas to celebrate my birthday with my best friend and see the Backstreet Boys! Kevin and I chatted a lot through the app and he ended up being the first person to tell me happy birthday! We agreed to go out to meet when I returned. We met at a small brewery/restaurant and had dinner and a couple of drinks. Time passed very quickly and the restaurant was closing!
We couldn’t believe we had stayed that long! Kevin walked me to my car and something flew into my eye. This was terrible timing because I knew he was going to try to kiss me and I wanted to kiss him, but I didn’t want him to think I was trying to avoid it! He offered to go to a drug store to buy me eye drops, but I didn’t let him. He then stepped in and kissed me! I went home very happy that night and was excited to see him again! The only problem- I was now going to NC for two weeks to visit my family! We agreed to go out again when I returned back to Orlando. We texted every day while I was gone. When I got back to Orlando, he brought me flowers and we went out again. We have literally been inseparable ever since! We quickly found pet names for one another- he is “Bubba” and I am “Bubby”.
How They Asked
We planned an amazing Hawaiian vacation for October 2019. While in Maui, we decided to take a hike down to the Nakalele Blowhole. As we were hiking down, Kevin was being so attentive to me, helping me every step of the way. Before we met, I went to Hawaii with my parents. My dad assisted my mom in a very similar way. I thought of this while hiking down and thought to myself how blessed I was to find a man who treats me as well as my dad treats my mom!
When we got to the bottom of the hike, to our right we saw the beautiful “Heart Rock”. This is a rock with a perfectly formed heart in the center! We took several pictures in front of it. As I started to walk away, Kevin said, “Wait Bubby…”. I turned around and saw Kevin down on one knee. My hands immediately went over my mouth and I started to cry. With tears in his eyes, he said, “Bubby, you know I think you’re the most beautiful girl in the world and I love you more than anything in the world. Will you marry me?” With excitement, I said “YES!” and he put the most beautiful ring on my left ring finger. We then hugged and kissed and cried tears of joy! There was no one around us. It was just us. It was a moment that will live over and over again in our hearts forever. It was perfect. We then spent the rest of our vacation celebrating our new engagement!
