How We Met

Christopher and I attended different high schools, however, we had many of the same mutual friends and would often see each other at a friend’s house or sporting events. At this time, he was a star baseball player following his dream of becoming drafted and having a serious relationship was not on his mind. It wasn’t until we both moved away to begin our freshman year of undergrad, that he reached out. I had posted on twitter that said, “i wish somebody would take me to see Christmas lights”, and he immediately sent me a text offering to take me. Being that we were three hours away from one another, this didn’t happen. However, we began talking to each other everyday and started to form a relationship. There were many times when he would drive straight after his baseball practice to see me for a few hours before having to drive back. When I could, I would go watch his baseball games and spend the weekend with him. Although we both liked each other, the distance, his baseball, and my schooling prevented us from becoming very serious. We continued to build our relationship, and during this time, Christopher ended up getting drafted to the San Diego Padres and had to move to Arizona for the baseball season. It was a bittersweet moment, because I knew how hard he had worked for this but I also didn’t know where that would leave us. Fortunately, the distance only solidified how important we were to each other. After two months of not seeing one another, Christopher got to return home for a visit, and after a year of casually dating, asked me to be his girlfriend! Now almost six years later, and I still get butterflies every time I seem him.

how they asked

This past December, Christopher and I took a trip with his family to Nashville, TN to celebrate New Years (one of our favorite places ever). For our first day there, we had planned to adventure around downtown, grab some drinks, and walk over the large bridge that covers the Cumberland River. Once on the bridge, we stopped on the overlook to take some group pictures. Up until this point, I hadn’t noticed anyone to be acting out of the ordinary and had no clue as to what was about to happen. When Christopher and I were taking pictures, he kept asking to take another, which is odd since he hates to take multiple pictures. I started to feel him reach into his pocket, and began to figure out what was happening. He looked at me and said that he had to ask me a question, and go down on one knee. Right after I had said yes, he turned me around to show that my mom, dad, and sister were all there and had watched the entire thing. It meant so much to me that he had included mine and his family in such a special time for us. The rest of the night was a blur, as I was in such shock and could not stop staring at my ring. I have known from the beginning that he was the one, and I couldn’t have imagined a more special proposal. This day will forever be one of the best days on my life!
