Kayla and Bentley
How We Met: Bentley and I met through a mutual friend when he was visiting Florida. I cannot describe the butterflies I felt when I first saw him. I clearly remember talking in a group with a bunch of girls giggling about how cute he was when one girl came up and asked who’s that? I answered simply “my future boyfriend.” And that is exactly what he became. By the time Bentley went back home to Kentucky we both knew we had something we wouldn’t just let go of. Bentley and I dated long distance for over two years. This wasn’t easy, especially since we were only 15 and we were each other’s first boyfriend/girlfriend. We had no clue how to be in a relationship, let alone a long distance one! All we knew we loved each other too much to let distance or peoples doubts break us apart. I believe the distance made our relationship stronger, it taught us struggles and we proved we can beat them by working as a team always. Through all the exciting trips to see each other, endless face time dates, and support from our amazing families we made it all work and over two years later when Bentley was only 18 he packed his bags and made a 13 hour drive all alone to Florida where we would start our new life together.
how they asked: It was a sunny spring day in Naples Florida when Bentley and I were at the beach with my family and my very best friend Dakotah. All day Bentley was so happy and exceptionally sweet with me. I didn’t view this as anything out of the ordinary since we hadn’t really spent quality time together in a while due to work and school. Everything about that day was perfect, spending time with the people closest to me on such a beautiful day on my favorite place on earth, the beach! At the end of the day Bentley told me he wanted to take me out on the paddle board one last time. When we got on the paddle board I had asked Bentley if I can paddle us out, he was a little anxious and told me to just sit down and relax that he would paddle us this time. He paddled us out and he stopped a few feet away from the pier. He turned the paddle board away from the pier and told me to turn towards him so we could watch the sunset together. It was perfect, the sunset was stunning and vibrant and the water was empty and still. He told me how beautiful I was. He went on to tell me how far we had come and how he wanted to spend forever with me. Lastly he said “Kayla I love you will you turn around” There on the pier my family was holding up the signs “Kayla will you marry me”
I turned around with tears in my eyes and of course, said yes! The whole crowd of people on the pier clapped and cheered as he pulled the ring out of his swim suit pocket and put in on my finger. After that my family had a surprise dinner and engagement cake waiting for us! Best day of my life.
