How We Met
Eli and I have known each other since Junior High, I had my eye on him and FINALLY got to sit next to his freshman year in one of our classes. We played tic-tack-toe on binder paper but didn’t exchange many words. Freshman through Junior year of high school we were each other’s dates to school events. I was crushing way harder than he was.
The end of Junior year comes around and on the first day of summer break we go to a drive-in movie and we have our first kiss. We started dating after, we had a fun summer full of Roadtrips and county fairs. Following the summer after we graduated high school we dated while I was in England and he was in California, doing long distance for 6 months. Now we are in our home town dating for over 3 years. Until…
How They Asked
My childhood best friend texted Eli and I saying she wants to do a photo shoot on June 13th. I found all of it suspicious considering we have been discussing engagement. We drove up to the quaint California seaside town, Carmel. We ate breakfast and walked around a bit, while my friend went to look for a “good photoshoot location”. As we are driving to take pictures my stomach was grumbling in anticipation of what may be happening. However, Eli didn’t seem to know where we were going.
We finally get to where our friend was, and walked down this hill leading down to this cliff right off of highway 1. As we get closer I hear “click click click” it’s my friend in a bush taking pictures. Eli takes me by the hand and leads me to a blanket with pillows and flowers. I asked if I should sit down and he tells me to stay standing. He takes a deep breath and tears fill his eyes.
I can’t remember what he said because my chest was pounding. All I remember was he said “I choose you” and get down on one knee. He pulls out this piece of wood that he carved out to hold my ring. He asks the question I have been thinking about for too long “will you marry me” of course I said yes!
