How We Met
Kevin and I met in the fall of 2016 when we were students at Oklahoma State University when I was a freshman and he was a sophomore. We met at the Tumbleweed Dancehall the first weekend of the semester. He was with a group of guys in his fraternity, one of which had been a good friend of mine for years. After that, we always saw each other at the same parties but nothing ever came of it. The next year we re-connected through Snapchat and after a month he asked me to be his girlfriend after we went ice skating.
How They Asked
Kevin had said we were long overdue for dinner date but it seemed a little suspicious when he requested to eat at 4:30 p.m. But we drove to one of our favorite restaurants in Stillwater (the same one we ate at on our first date). I could tell something was off because he kept checking his phone and couldn’t seem to sit still.
We finished eating at 5:30 so I asked him what we were going to do with the rest of the evening, he said we should watch a movie at his house. Sad that movies were all in the cards, we headed towards his house.
As we drove toward his house, he told me he wanted to stop at the OSU bookstore in the Student Union because he had found a shirt he wanted me to look at but he wanted to park the opposite direction from the bookstore. So we started walking towards Theta Pond, a popular spot on campus with a beautiful bridge and trees.
On the other side of the bridge was a chalkboard that said “here’s to the Straits” with the date, a table of some of my favorite photos of us, lights and a Bible that said “Katy Strait.” As he led me over the bridge and I saw the beautiful setup, I knew what was happening. Then he proposed and out popped a photographer who was capturing the moment. Kevin had recruited the help of my closest friends to help set up and had a party awaiting us. BEST. DATE NIGHT. EVER.
