How We Met
We admit it, we swiped right. After numerous days of virtual flirting, we met for brunch at a super cute local eatery on a beautiful, sunny Illinois afternoon. It was then when the true sparks were flying. We laughed together, looked at cute animal videos, talked about what made us happy, sad, and everything in between, shared our life goals – we even talked about kids on date #1 – WHAT?! After brunch, we enjoyed a casually stroll at a nearby park (yes, we’re not making this up). It was the perfect, storybook day.
how they asked
J popped the question during ‘high tea’ at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Singapore on my 33rd birthday. While dining, he asked me reminiscing questions regarding what we had bonded about when we first started dating. We used to (and still do) love looking at funny dog accounts on social media, laughing and enjoying every picture or video together – especially my favorite dog on Instagram, Chester, the balancing dog. Chester balances random food items on his nose from cantaloupe to eggs, to even bacon. From then until now, I would show J pictures of Chester regularly.
J asked me to check my phone (which was in my purse at the time). I grabbed it and saw a text message from J with a picture attached of Chester himself. But, it was no ordinary food he was balancing in this picture. It was a special cookie baked just for me that said, “Will You Marry Me?” I was in so much shock and so confused on how he could get Chester to do this! Then, J asked me to check under the chair I was sitting on and there it was – he had hidden the engagement ring box underneath.
He got down on one knee and said, “Katy, will you marry me?? You are the love of my life!”
This was such a wonderful surprise. He had to contact Lisa, Chester’s owner, through Instagram to arrange this special cookie order. Chester is located all the way in San Francisco when we were living in Asia at the time.
