Katy and Jimmy
how they asked: During work on Wednesday, September 21, our neighbor sent me a text message asking me to join her outside so our dogs could play. Since I was flying to California in just two days for a huge event, I politely declined citing my busy schedule. She was persistent, so I told her she was more than welcome to grab my dogs and take them to play with hers. I got home about 45 minutes late that evening. I walked in the door and immediately began telling Jimmy about the printer at work having a major attitude problem and running out of ink and ruining my day. I noticed that both our dogs were there and asked why our neighbor had not come to pick them up. He blew me off and I continued complaining about my day. He interrupted me by saying that he had something to talk to me about before I went into a long story (which I am famous for). Irritated about him putting a halt to my attempt to blow off some steam, I watched as he laid out several pictures of engagement rings on the bar in our kitchen. He start telling me that the rings I liked and had shown him were all far too expensive and it just wasn’t going to work out. He asked me to choose one from the pictures he had laid out. (They were heinous.) I stared blankly for a moment, trying to wrap my brain around what was going on. Why did we have to do this now? The rings in the pictures were NOTHING like the ones I had shown him. Did he not pay attention to me at all? As my day started to get even worse and frustration began to get the best of me, I managed to say “Ok, this is the thing…”. The next thing I heard was “Well, how about this one?” I turned around and there he was, down on one knee with the biggest smile on his face. And in his hand was the most perfectly beautiful ring I had ever seen. And Jimmy was holding the box upside down. That’s my favorite part, because it is so typical of him. I think I screamed. Actually, I am sure of it. And I cried. A lot. I don’t know how long it took me to say yes, but I did. I was completely shocked and so excited! Turns out my neighbor never really wanted to take my dogs for a walk. She was just trying to keep me out of the house until Jimmy got home.
Talk about excited! We were engaged within 2 hours of him picking the ring up!
