How We Met
Caleb and I have been together now roughly 6.5 years. (7 in July!) We both have mutual friends that brought us together right after we both graduated high school. He through a party that summer in June and since that night, we haven’t left each others side. We had a small birthday party for a friend and Caleb and I hit it off immediately. We exchanged phone numbers that night. The next day I was sitting on my bed and my phone started ringing. I thought it was strange he wasn’t following the 2-3 day rule most guys have of calling a girl they met. ;) Little did I know he pocket called me! After that, we went on a few dates and knew we wanted to be together. We made it official on July 10th 2010. We both started college in August. I went to Chandler Gilbert Community and he went to ASU. Our first couple of college years were full of many nights of studying and doing homework next to each other with a lot of math help on the side. My dad always joked that Caleb he couldn’t dump me until I was finished with math classes! With going to school, we both worked a lot! So we occasionally got out to go to the ASU football games where we had season tickets for many many years. Go Devils!! Well, after 4 years and Caleb graduating from ASU he decided he wanted to go to graduate school. I can still remember the countless applications that were returned with offers and the constant wonder/nerves as to where he would decide to go. One day he received a letter from Princeton. How prestigious! He instantly knew he wanted to go there and on the same day accepted their offer. We packed him up that summer and flew him out to New Jersey. His step mom, dad and I all had one bag of our own and one bag full of his things. We spend a week in New Jersey exploring the town, finding the local laundry mat for him, shopping and getting him settled. It was definitely a bitter sweet trip. Caleb and I had been together for 4 years and spent nearly every day together. We only lived about 5 miles from each other and now we’re going to be 2,375.3 miles apart. I am happy to say we survived the two years he was gone! While he was away I graduated from Northern Arizona University and started teaching 3rd grade!!
how they asked
We took a trip to Indiana in January of 2016 to see my family. My grandpa had just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Before we had left he of course sat down and talked to my dad and told him life goals and asked for his permission. Caleb knows Indiana has such a special place in my heart. I’d move back if I could. He also knows I adore the snow and cold weather. Well January in Indiana is the perfect spot for such a special memory. One day we were with my brother Zachary and his wife Nicole at my grandparent’s house and we looked outside and it had started to snow!! I of course went outside to play and enjoy the snow. I am pretty sure Caleb followed just to appease me/make sure I didn’t fall. So we took a walk taking in the cold, snow and beautiful scenery. When we got to the end of the street he stopped me to turn back around but instead stopped and got on one knee. He basically told me how much I mean to him and he can’t fathom spending another day without me. I of course said YES!! It was beautiful and perfect. When we got back to Arizona, we only had a few days before Caleb had to leave again and finish up at Princeton. Fast forward a couple of months to May… He was home and for good!!
