How We Met
Justin and I met when we were freshmen at Santa Clara University. We are from the same hometown in Washington, but he went to private school and I went to public school, so we never met. Some mutual friends introduced us the summer before college started, and we quickly became close friends. November of freshman year Justin asked me to be his girlfriend while we were watching a meteor shower on the Santa Clara baseball field. I’ve never looked back since.
From sorority dances and study abroad to moving to San Francisco and international travel, we have always been each other’s partner in crime.
How They Asked
On December 28, 2018, Justin proposed at my family’s cabin in Hood Canal, Washington. Hood Canal has such a special place in my heart and it is where I feel the most at home. In spite of the 40-degree weather and spitting rain, Justin walked me out to the bulkhead and proposed by the water while my family watched from inside the cabin.
Then he surprised me by telling me that his family was driving to meet us! When they arrived we all had champagne, Italian wedding soup, and celebrated! We spent the afternoon hiking to a local waterfall and shooting oysters at the Hama Hama Oyster Saloon.
Our family friends Gretchen and Gordon Raine have owned a jewelry shop in Bellevue, Washington for years. I had always told Justin that if he was going to propose he had to get the ring from the Raine’s store, Gordon James Fine Diamonds! Their son Matt and I grew up together and he now works there alongside his parents. Justin worked hand in hand with Matt, Gretchen, and Gordon to develop my perfect ring– an oval-cut diamond in a halo setting. Justin even snuck up to Seattle in October to meet with Matt, telling me that he had gone home to celebrate his dad’s birthday. Matt recently proposed to his girlfriend Rachel, and was a huge help to Justin throughout the entire proposal process. It is so special that the Raine’s got to play such an important role in our proposal!
