Katie and Shawn's Proposal in Brooklyn Bridge Park
How we met, His Story…
Katie and I briefly knew of one another during the first month of grad school in Ft. Lauderdale through mutual acquaintances. At the first joint class outing downtown, I was passing by a bar when I heard my name called over. I looked over and it was Katie hailing me over to her, with a three-guy barrier in between. Once breaking through, she grabbed my hand and told the other three that I was her husband. The weak contenders left in dismay, and the rest, as they say, is history.
how they asked, Her Story…
December 15, 2014 was a gorgeous day in New York City. We went to breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien, took a long walk through Central Park, and then headed down to Little Eataly for a late Lunch. The plan for the rest of the day was to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and check out Brooklyn and D.U.M.B.O.
Being winter and the sun setting early, Shawn was racing us over the bridge so we could make it to Brooklyn Bridge Park before dark. Me being the tourist I am, I stop over a hundred times to take pictures. Not knowing why he was racing us over the bridge so fast besides his “the sun is setting fast” reason, I hurried up and we finally reached Brooklyn Bridge Park. It was gorgeous. We walked along the water and took in the city skyline views.
As soon as I turned to walk away to head to our next planned location, Shawn took my hand and got down on one knee. Everything went blurry around me and all I could think is holy sh**, this is happening. You always hear girls talk about how magical and breathtaking that moment is and you never realize it until it happens to you.
I said yes (of course) and we embraced into each other’s arms. After a couple of minutes of total shock, he turns me around to a lady holding a camera to point out a photographer he hired to secretly capture our proposal.
Let me tell you, smart man. We spent the next hour waking around Brooklyn and taking our surprise engagement pictures.
His proposal was perfect and I couldn’t have dreamed it better any other way.
