How We Met
During my Sophmore year of high school, I was dating a guy for a few months but started to realize it was not a good relationship. One day I was sitting in the common room of our school and my old friend came to say hi with someone else in tow. My friend introduced us and we just started talking. Every day after that this kid would come to find me and give me some cookies from our schools vending machine. He was a senior and I was a Sophmore, so I did not think much of it because why would he be into me? Well, as the months went on, he was getting ready to graduate and I was busy with my clubs.
I ended up breaking up with my boyfriend at the time, and that night I went to this kid’s graduation party at his house. It was a great time, we hung out with his friends and just had fun. A few days later, I was hanging out with him like any other day, he walked me home but we stopped at a park near my house, where he asked me to be his girlfriend. Thrilled as ever, I gladly said yes and we kissed for the first time. We did not know it at the time, but that was our last, first kiss. 8 years later, we are still going strong and as in love as ever.
How They Asked
I had told Sean for years that he is not able to surprise me with anything. He would get so excited about something he got me that he would give it to me as soon as he could, regardless if it was time or not. Back in February, we went together to get the engagement ring, since then it has been a running joke that he would not be able to surprise me with a proposal. I knew it was coming soon, but not sure when and I would poke and pester him all the time about when he would do it. We had plans to go to the Ren Faire the weekend of August 16th with one of our close friends. The next day we were going to his mom’s house because his grandma and uncle were in town, so I told him that would be a perfect time to do it, at the Ren Faire because we could tell everyone the next day. He insisted that he would not do it then, that he had a plan for something else.
Giving in and not thinking anything of it again, we went to the Ren Faire all dressed up and having a wonderful time. The three of us then went back to our place and he wanted our friend to take pictures of us in our costumes as the sunset. Again, not thinking anything of it, I thought it was a great idea and we headed out to the porch. Our friend had the camera and started giving orders about how to pose, one was looking into the distance and the sunset. I thought that was a cheesy and dumb pose so I was joking about it and then turned around because I was going to tell her how dumb it was. When I turned around, there he was on one knee. I was so surprised I asked him if he was serious. Our friend was able to capture that amazing moment, although for a good minute I couldn’t say anything except, “Are you sure?”. I finally said yes, of course, and cried. They both were proud of themselves for pulling off something I did not think possible, they surprised me and it was just perfect.
