how they asked
We were heading to Port Williams, Nova Scotia for the first of our many Thanksgiving dinners. I had a hunch that he was going to propose because we both value our families above everything and there would be a lot of time to celebrate with them over the long weekend. He mentioned that he wanted to go pick apples at an orchard nearby his parents house, so we headed up early. I expected that he was proposing at the apple orchard, so was a little bit anxious when he mentioned that he wanted to go to his parents’ house first. When we got there, we were sitting in the kitchen talking with his family and he kept checking out the window saying that he thought he heard something… They live on a farm and there is always a lot going on with the tractors and equipment so I didn’t think much of it.
All of a sudden, Rob says “Katie, put your shoes on” and leads me outside to a helicopter sitting in his front yard. I was beyond shocked, so I grabbed his hand and followed him to the helicopter and jumped in with him. After we had been up for a few minutes, I looked out my window and saw writing in a field that said “Will you marry me?”. It was completely breathtaking… I turned to look at him and he was holding the most beautiful ring and told me that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and asked if I would marry him. I was crying a bit too hard to answer right away, but I nodded and made the driver circle around so I could look at the field again.
When we landed, both of our families were on the ground ready to congratulate us. We talked a bit about his scheming and I learned his entire family was in on the proposal. His brother wrote the message in the field and his family helped to plan the whole scheme. It meant the world to me that both of our families were so excited and willing to do anything to make Rob’s plan work… we had quite a busy weekend celebrating!
