How We Met
Patrick and I met in College 6 years ago through mutual friends. When moving in together, a year ago, everyone convinced me he would be proposing soon. They would say we were “perfect” for one another and it was about time we moved our lives to the next stage.
how they asked
On October 20, 2017, he said he had taken off from work and made plans for dinner to celebrate my birthday (a week prior). He was acting a little of that day, but I didn’t think anything of it. We had dinner at the restaurant we went to for our one year anniversary. Afterward, he got us a horse and carriage ride through Central Park in NYC. He asked the driver to stop at the fountain, and when I turned around, he was down on one knee. It was truly romantic. And that’s when things took a humorous turn. The ring had been a size too small, however, I was stubborn and refused to believe it wouldn’t fit. I jammed The ring on (and sure I heard a pop of some kind). No more than 5 minutes later, we get back on the horse and carriage while calling all of our friends and family, and my finger had begun to swell. I panicked and continually tried to look up ways online of how to take a ring off a swollen finger. Each method that I tried, made it worse. Finally about 4 hours later, I submitted to that fact that I was going to have to go to the hospital. With that, our mothers both call and say “go to the nearest fire department, they will help you”. Thinking this was odd but taking their advice, the firemen immediately took me in and began working at it. In the end, they had to saw the ring in half to get it off of my finger. My poor fiancé had to watch and they handed him the ring cut in half! What a funny and eventful way to start the rest of our lives together!!
