How We Met
Nick and I met at work. I had just finished my first year of law school and had locked down an internship. I showed up on my first day, and my supervisor introduced me to this handsome man with brown hair. He was wearing this tweed jacket I really liked. I like different types of fabrics, so I awkwardly asked him if I could touch his jacket sleeve. His response wants yes or no, but rather “briefly”. Little did I know that this was his way of flirting with me.
Later on, I didn’t have anyone to go to lunch with, so he offered to take me across the street to Mexican food. We hit it off at lunch, so we kept hanging out at work. I gave him my number so we could hang out outside of work. He didn’t call me for two weeks! Finally, he invited me over to his house for a bonfire and s’mores. I didn’t know if it was a date, but when I arrived no one else was there except us, and I realized it indeed was a date. We sat and chatted for hours over a few glasses of wine. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
How They Asked
Nick was at my parent’s house woodworking while my mom and I went to get our nails done. When we got home from the nail salon, I realized I didn’t have my house keys to our apartment. I went inside my parents’ house to find Nick to ask to use his keys, except I could not find him anywhere. Meanwhile, I had received an odd text that said to go to my childhood bedroom- I shrugged it off as spam! I then called Nick to ask where he was, he responded that he didn’t know and that I should go to my childhood bedroom and then hung up on me. So I went to my childhood bedroom, where I found a photo album filled with pictures of us, a timeline of our love story, and momentos he had saved throughout our four years of dating.
There was also a key and a clue, telling me to go to his woodworking shop. I went to the shop and used the key to unlock the shed, inside which I found a picnic basket, his car keys, and another clue telling me to drive to our apartment down the street and pick up more things. I went into the apartment to find a picnic blanket and another clue, asking me to run errands! It told me to go pick up our favorite California chicken cafe wraps and ice cream from wanderlust and then to check the glove box. I picked everything up and the next clue told me to drive to Topanga state beach, so I did. I met him on the beach, where we set up our picnic. He asked me if I had gotten everything, so I told him I didn’t cheat on the scavenger hunt and I thought I had found all the clues. He then reached into his backpack, said I hadn’t gotten everything, and pulled out the ring. He told me he loved me and then asked me to marry him. I said of course! We then enjoyed a picnic of our favorite foods on the beach at sunset.
