How We Met
Mike and I met through mutual friends 7 years ago, on his birthday. Fairly quickly I knew he was someone I wanted to get to know better. We’ve been dating for the better part of those 7 years, and recently bought a house together. We had started looking at rings over a year ago, but Michael took his sweet time proposing, as I reminded him often ?. Since I’d been thinking a proposal was in the cards for at least the last year, it meant every vacation, getaway, impromptu dinner, etc. had me thinking “is this it?!” (Spoiler alert: it wasn’t ?). But when I booked us a last minute overnight stay in Whistler (just a 4-hour drive from where we live in Seattle), it truly didn’t even cross my mind. Little did I know, he would take advantage of our trip to totally surprise me!
How They Asked
When we got Whistler, we planned to walk around the village since neither of us had been in quite some time. We walked for about an hour, and Michael kept mentioning we should get someone to take our picture but we hadn’t asked anyone yet. On the way back to our hotel we crossed back over this beautiful creek with a park area. I was reading some infographic about the park when Michael called me over telling me a woman was going to take a photo of us.
I thought nothing of it. She snapped a few pictures, then suddenly Michael turned to me, said a few words neither of us can really remember, then got to one knee and asked me to marry him! I was totally caught by surprise, which I didn’t think was possible. The woman taking our picture was too! She was wonderful and we probably owe her some money for unknowingly taking our engagement photos ?.
