How We Met
Chris and I met in high school. We had the same group of friends, but we were always just acquaintances. After we graduated, I went to college and he joined the Army. A few years later, I was single, and a friend of ours tried to get me to message him! I was very interested, but chickened out and nothing came of it. In August 2015, I decided to try a dating website. I filled out their long questionnaire, and was excited to see my first match. I couldn’t believe my eyes when it said that Chris and I were a match! On the first match, no less! I liked his profile right away and the next day he began messaging me. We had talked from time to time on social media since graduating from high school, but this time we planned a coffee date at The Night Owl. We talked late into the evening at the coffee shop, and planned to see each other the very next day. The rest is history!
how they asked
Chris knows how much I love Disneyland. I get as excited about it as a kid on Christmas morning! The week before he proposed he told me that our close group of friends had planned a day at Disneyland. A Thursday, so it would be less crowded. I was so excited! A day with my favorite people… fantastic! After a long drive (we live three hours away) we got there and met up with our friends. It was a great morning and we went on quite a few rides. After lunch we made our way to Fantasyland. We were trying to decide on which ride to go on when Chris grabbed my hand and asked me to follow him. I didn’t think anything of it, and to my knowledge our friends were still talking about which ride to go on next. He brought me over to a more private area, next to a waterfall right next to the Storybook Land Canal Boats. When we got there he turned me to face a certain direction and told me, “By now you might have guessed we are not here today just for a Disneyland trip.” My reaction: “We’re not?!” I was completely clueless! He started to tell me so many sweet things, how much he loves me, and that he had a question to ask. It was then that he started to fumble getting the ring box out of his pocket that I knew. He got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. I threw my hands up to my face in absolute shock.
It was really happening! I reached down to kiss him and said yes! I hugged him and kissed him so many times! After he got up and put the ring on my finger, I looked over and saw all of our friends. They were cheering and crying. Our friend Rachel had captured it all on camera! Just then, the park guests in line for Dumbo the Flying Elephant had realized what had just happened and began to cheer. All of our friends had been in on his plan from the beginning and had been waiting all day for it to happen! Everything about it was perfect!
