How We Met
Our story began in passing at a fraternity party in 2008. We were only acquaintances since we lived in two different states. Brian lived in Oklahoma City and I am deep in the heart of Houston, Texas. We sparked small conversation about his dog, Peyton, in 2015 which lead to an impulsive decision to visit them both! Who knew this was the beginning of the rest of my life. After two years of long distance dating, Brian closed the 450 mile gap relocating to Texas. We went from only seeing each other once a month to being inseparable 24/7. It wasn’t easy but we were able to overcome all of the obstacles.
how they asked
Brian had planned a perfect weekend getaway to Dallas, Texas. That’s about a four hour drive from Houston. He told me it was for his mom’s birthday but this was the weekend before Christmas. I thought it was odd to be traveling two weekends in a row but I just went with it. That same week, I started feeling ill. I was coughing and sneezing so it wasn’t looking too good. I decided to go to the doctor and was diagnosed with the flu and strep! We ended up having to cancel the trip and he stayed in to care for me. Little did I know, all of our family and friends had to cancel since they all planned to be there. (Oops!)
In the meantime, Brian was scheming of a plan B. After a few days, I was feeling much better so he asked me to an early Christmas dinner with just the two of us that Wednesday. It was perfect because we were prepping for a chaotic holiday weekend. He drove me out to what I thought was dinner but instead the moment of a lifetime. He turned to me and said, “We are making a pit stop. I have a present for you.” He handed me a box with a card and headphones that said how much he loved me. The directions were to put the headphones on and follow his lead.
As he guided me around the plaza, I watched a video my cousin helped him create. Midway through the walk, the video cuts to my dad’s cemetery. In the video, Brian starts reading a touching letter to his grave stone. Then he asks for my hand in marriage which brought me to tears and when I looked down and he was on one knee.
I really couldn’t believe my eyes. I was in so much shock. I didn’t even realize the sea of people behind us. A few of our closest family and friends were hiding nearby. They all came pouring in with hugs. We all went to dinner after to celebrate our engagement!
