How We Met
Colton and I both attended Southwest Baptist University. My good friend Alex’s fiance just happened to be roommates with Colton and one day I was in the student union working on a project with them. Colton stopped by to say hello to them, but a guy was helping me fix my computer and Colton thought he was my boyfriend so we really didn’t have a chance to chat. A few months later I happened to see my friend’s photo on Instagram with a really attractive guy in the photo with him; it was Colton! So I looked him up on social media and realized we had so much in common. We both loved Jesus, the Cardinals and our families. So I made the first move and added him as a friend on Facebook.
Not long after he sent a message asking for my number. A few weeks later we went on our first date to Andy’s Ice Cream. He was with his parents at a concert in Nashville and they drove home early just so he could go on a date with me! We started officially dating a month later and quickly knew this was a forever kind of love. He is so supportive and my best friend.
how they asked
Colton and I knew we planned to get married and in looking at venues stumbled across Haue Valley just outside of St. Louis. We toured the venue in April 2017 and fell in love with it so much that we went ahead and reserved a wedding date prior to our engagement. After booking the venue my best friend Lyndsay (who happens to be in the wedding industry as a cake designer) told me the venue was looking for a set of models for an upcoming photo shoot. Little did I know they were also in talks with Colton to turn the photo shoot into our actual proposal!
On the day of the photo shoot I had my hair and makeup done, and got into a beautiful dress before heading down to the photo shoot location at Haue Valley. When I reached the bottom of the hill where the photos would be taking place I still thought this was just a photo shoot. We began posing in front of a beautiful giant floral wreath when Colton got down on one knee.
I was completely surprised and of course I said yes! A few minutes later I asked Colton if our family knew, only to be surprised when returning to the venue that they were actually there to celebrate with us at an engagement party! I was so excited to see my grandfather there. He rarely leaves the house anymore and it was so special that he was able to make it. After the party I learned that 12 St. Louis wedding vendors made our beautiful engagement possible. I’m so thankful for each of them!
