How We Met
On the first day of high school Spanish class (my freshman year), we got paired up together as partners. I knew there was something special about him (I even wrote all about it in my diary). He was a year ahead of me in school and was the best pole vaulter in our state, so of course, I had to sign up for that to get to know him better. We both ended up getting recruited to do track in college at universities five miles apart. So we moved to Minnesota and have been there ever since.
How They Asked
Every single Saturday morning we walk to the farmer’s market. This was the last farmer’s market of the season and he told me his mother was coming into town to visit and we were going to have lunch with her right after so we should dress nicely to the market. He also insisted on getting her the most beautiful market flowers that I secretly wanted. On our walk back home he stopped us on the stone arch bridge which is a bridge we would walk to in college a lot and one of our favorite spots in Minneapolis.
He started to explain that his mom wasn’t actually coming for lunch and the flowers were for me. He got down on one knee and shocked me so bad I didn’t even have my nails done. He had hired a secret photographer who was there to capture the moment. We will cherish those photos forever. 8 years later, I get to marry the best Spanish partner I ever had.
