How We Met
My fiance’s name is Cam, and we met in Atlanta while he was on a work trip on Bumble (Hi 2018!) I was living in Atlanta, and he lived in Raleigh at the time so we thought grabbing a cocktail was pretty harmless since (we thought) we probably wouldn’t end up seriously dating. We decided to meet for one cocktail and one cocktail turned into a 6-hour date and a flight booked for me to visit him in Raleigh the following weekend. Our first six dates were all in different cities because we both traveled for work, and after six months of dating I decided to move to Raleigh so our suitcases could take a break. The rest is history!
How They Asked
I always thought brides who said ‘I had NO IDEA he was going to propose!’ were lying at least a little bit. How did you know guess when he scheduled a spa day for you to get a manicure? How did you not know when the only other person in the place had a professional camera? How did you not know when he was ON ONE KNEE?!
Well, now I know because that’s exactly what happened to me! A week before we got engaged, my fiance treated me to a spa day to get a manicure. He told me we were going to visit his friends in Charlotte on Saturday for a nice dinner but before we went we needed to stop at a fundraiser in the park that was a work event for him. So on Saturday morning, we drove to the park and no one was there. He said he got the date wrong and the event was actually on Sunday, but we should get out and walk around anyway. As we started walking, we noticed the only other person in the park (our photographer!) and I even mentioned that it was funny how the only other person in the park was taking pictures of the ground with a professional camera.
I was getting cold so I asked if we could go back to the car, but clearly, Cam had other plans. He asked if we could walk toward the beautiful cityscape (the shot he had planned with the photographer), and I told him I wanted to walk the other way. He insisted, and we did.
He stopped me as we were walking and the conversation was as follows:
Cam: “I’m not good at this.”
Me: “Good at what?”
Cam: “Pretending like I’m not up to something.”
Me: “What do you mean?”
Cam: “I love you more than anything in the world”
Me: “Wait. What are you doing?”
Cam gets on one knee.
Me: “What are you doing?”
Cam: “Will you marry me?”
Me: “SERIOUSLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
Needless to say, I was totally shocked. I said yes, Cam pointed out that the woman taking pictures of the ground was now taking pictures of us, and there was clearly no trip to Charlotte. Officially shocked and officially engaged.
