How We Met
Chase and I met three years ago, on a ski trip in Northern Ontario, Canada. We were both in dental school at Detroit Mercy, Chase was in his first year and I was in my third. Our school has an annual ski trip at the Blue Mountain Ski Resort each January and our chalets happened to be directly next to each other. Since I was an upperclassman, I was in charge of playing music for the party one night after a day of skiing. Chase thought he could do a better job at choosing the music for the party (he was wrong). We started chatting about music, school, and restaurants and who had better taste in such things (I did, but he impressed me very much). Sure enough, we exchanged numbers and went on our first one-on-one date the day we got back from the trip! Since then, we’ve traveled all over the US and to Thailand, Colombia, and Costa Rica together. We bought a 1981 Dodge Ram Camper Van this summer that we’re renovating and currently enjoy exploring Detroit and all the wonderful food it has to offer.
How They Asked
Alaska has always been on our bucket list for adventure. Thinking we were setting off for a day of hiking in Anchorage and Seward, I was all bundled up and ready to break a sweat. Chase pulled off to a scenic overlook for us to take a pit stop. I had no idea what was coming next, so the first thing I did was dart out of the car for a bathroom break in the woods. Chase was busy setting up his Go Pro in a tree for a picture, which was not out of the ordinary for us because it is usually the only way to get a good picture together when we are traveling.
When he finally got me to stop skipping rocks and exploring the lake, he pulled me in for a picture, opened his vest and pulled out the ring. Immediate tears and overwhelming joy and boom, we were engaged. The rest of the trip was spent hiking, eating seafood, and drinking all the celebratory champagne we could get our hands on.
