Karissa and Paul
How We Met
Paul and I used to be next door neighbors growing up. I like to say that he’s had a crush on me ever since we were 8 years old.
We both moved off the block around the same time. Years later, when we were 17 (9 years ago), we saw each other at a party, and we were inseparable ever since.
how they asked
Paul and I have been dating for 9 years. I knew the proposal was coming sometime soon, but I wasn’t sure how or when. I swore up and down that Paul wouldn’t be able to surprise me because I know him like a book… and boy was I wrong. Earlier in the week, Paul had texted me and said, “I’m craving chili, should I tell my mom to make it on Saturday?” I replied, “sure,” and didn’t think anything of it. Fast forward to Saturday, I was tired mid-day and decided to take a nap. I woke up at 5:50 in the evening with a text from Paul saying, “I’m starving, be ready at 6.” I woke up, freshened up a bit, and he picked me up. We got to his moms house and there were 15 hand carved pumpkins sitting on top of stacks of hay that read, “will you marry me?”
I was speechless. I was crying like a baby.
After I said yes, our family and friends popped out from bushes, behind trucks, from the backyard, etc. and surprised me some more.
Wedding songs started playing from speakers, it truly felt like a movie. It was so special to have our friends and family there to celebrate our special moment with us. Afterwards, we went inside to a completely decorated house, flooded with pictures of us, balloons, food, and champagne.
It was perfect. It was magical. I’m still on cloud 9.
